Shedding Light on PBM Red Light Therapy

It’s no secret that light impacts the body. Our circadian rhythms are affected by light and exposure to sunlight converts cholesterol to vitamin D. Our bodies are constantly needing and responding to light.

In the world of modern wellness practices, light therapy has become a powerful tool for athletes to encourage healing and enhance performance. Among the various forms of light therapy, two options have become increasingly popular: the Handheld Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy and NovoTHOR Whole Body Light Therapy.  Both of these therapies are low-level laser therapies. While both therapies share the common goal of using light for therapeutic benefits, they differ in their purpose and benefits. Keep reading to learn about the differences between the two therapies to better understand their unique advantages.

The Discovery of Low-Light Therapy

In 1967, Endre Mester at the Semmelweis Medical University in Hungary was conducting a study. He was attempting to replicate the results of an experiment by Paul Mcguff in Boston. Paul McGuff had successfully cured malignant tumors in rats using a red laser. Mester used a red laser with a lower intensity compared to McGuff. While Mester did not cure any tumors with the laser, he observed improved wound healing and faster hair growth in rats in which he had implanted tumors. This was the first research showing that low-level laser light could offer benefits for the body.

How Does Low-Light Therapy Work?

PBM Therapy has become known for its ability to relieve pain and lower inflammation. PBM Therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function. This non-invasive treatment uses red and near-infrared light to target cells at the molecular level.

Our bodies generate ATP, a molecule that provides energy to our bodies. When oxygen and food are converted into ATP, an enzyme called Cytochrome C Oxidase binds oxygen. Free radicals and other molecules such as Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) can prevent oxygen oxygen from binding, which prevents ATP from being generated. This is called oxidative stress, one of the causes of health issues such as early aging, cell death and cancer. Low-light therapy excites CCO, preventing ROS from interfering in the ATP generation process. This helps your cells function normally.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy for Targeted Treatment

PBM Therapy can be administered through handheld devices to specific areas in the body for targeted treatment. This therapy is especially useful for addressing localized issues such as sprains, strains, and mouth and throat conditions.

Stretching for Workout

As mentioned previously, PBM also promotes ATP production, which increases energy for your body. More ATP means you will have increased energy for workouts and everyday life. The same processes that provide energy for your body also allow cells to heal. Low-light therapy supports your body’s capability to heal, which supports faster recoveries after workouts and injuries.

PBM therapy can also be used to rejuvenate the skin, improving the tone and texture of the skin. When the light targets skin cells, this increases the production of collagen. This therapy is a non-invasive way of treating acne scars, wrinkles, burns, and scars.

By directing light energy precisely where it’s needed, PBM Therapy offers targeted relief and accelerates the healing process.

NovoTHOR: A Comprehensive Whole-Body Treatment

NovoTHOR Therapy for Athlete Recovery

INovoTHOR is a holistic approach to light therapy, offering a comprehensive solution for full-body wellness. The NovoTHOR Wholebody Light Pod here at Float Magic covers the entire body in a blend of red and near-infrared light. This targets cells throughout the body for optimal healing and rejuvenation.

One of the key distinctions of NovoTHOR is its ability to treat the whole system, rather than just isolated areas. By providing full-body coverage, NovoTHOR can relieve pain, decrease inflammation to fight conditions like arthritis, and improve athletic performance.

Choose Low-Light Therapy

In low-light therapy, the Handheld Photobiomodulation (PBM) Therapy and NovoTHOR are two different approaches to healing and well-being. While the Handheld PBM Therapy focuses on targeted treatment, NovoTHOR offers a whole-body treatment through its specialized light pod. Understanding the differences between the two will allow you to choose the approach that best aligns with your wellness goals, whether it’s targeted relief or comprehensive rejuvenation.

Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic pain or wanting recovery from an injury, both therapies are effective tools using the power of light. If you’re interested in PBM Therapy in Twin Falls, reach out to Float Magic today.
